FAQ

Can I have my Wedding Photos taken in The Rookery

The Rookery is a beautiful setting and we often get asked whether it is permitted to use the gardens for wedding photographs. The short answer is yes - The Rookery is a public space and you are most welcome to use the gardens to photograph your special day.

We would, however, ask you to bear the following in mind.

As The Rookery is a public space we cannot book you or guarantee you exclusive use of the gardens. Please be respectful of other visitors and their right to enjoy the gardens.

Be aware you may not be the only wedding party there, particularly in summer months, and if this is the case please work cooperatively with other parties to ensure that you share the space and are all able to get the photographs you wanted.

It is also helpful if you contact us to let us know you will be here and we can let you know if there are any other activities in the Rookery that day that may impact you. Events that raise revenue for the Rookery will take priority.

There is no formal charge for using The Rookery for personal photography, but please bear in mind that the gardens are managed by community lead not for profit organisation and are heavily reliant on donations. If you would like to make a donation towards the upkeep of the gardens in return you can donate using the button on our home page .

If you are taking photographs or filming in The Rookery for commercial purposes you will require permission from SCCoop and charges may apply. Please contact us via our contact form

How can I make a donation

Streatham Common Cooperative is a small social enterprise which relies heavily on fundraising and any donations are gratefully received. If you would like to make a donation to us you can do so using the Donate here using PayPal.

Can I hold my wedding in The Rookery

Assuming COVID restrictions allow it, following a trial event this summer, we are able to offer parts of the Rookery gardens for hire as a wedding venue, in partnership with local catering company The Pickled Fork and the Inkspot Brewery.

See our Weddings page for more details.

Please note that in line with current UK legislation we are not licensed for legal wedding ceremonies and you would still be required to exchange vows in a church or registry office ceremony.

If you would like to hold a wedding in the Rookery, please enquire via our contact form with details of your wedding date and guest numbers and we will be in touch to confirm whether we can accommodate you and advise on costs. Please be aware that we are only able to take a limited number of wedding bookings per year.

I have a tree I would like to donate to be planted in The Rookery or the woodlands

We are unable to accept donations of trees due to regulations surrounding the provenance of the tree. You can however donate to our planting fund for the rookery. Please enquire further via our contact form.

I would like to place a memorial bench for a loved on in The Rookery

We have a large number of memorial benches in The Rookery and unfortunately we have no space for any new benches. If you would like to commemorate a loved one in The Rookery we have a Memorial Board in the Old English Garden where you can have a plaque installed in return for a donation towards the upkeep of The Rookery. Please note that there is a minimum donation of £200 and that all donations received go towards the cost of planting in the gardens and cover the cost of the plaque. If you would like more information on this please contact us at comments@sccoop.org.uk

The memorial bench for my relative is no longer in the gardens

Occasionally benches are moved or taken out of the gardens because they are no longer safe. If you cannot find your bench please let us know via our contact form stating the name on the bench and the previous position and we will try and locate your bench for you. It may have been moved to a different location, but sometimes we have to remove benches that have become damaged and unsafe for use. Where possible we will try and repair these but if this is not possible then you will be given the option to supply a replacement bench. Due to the current volume of benches we are only able to accept replacements if you already have a bench in the gardens that is damaged beyond repair.

I would like to change the inscription on our memorial bench

If you would like to add another name to your family memorial bench or change the inscription in any other way, please send us a message via our contact form stating the name on the bench and the location (if known). We will then send you the correct measurements for the plaque, along with a photograph, so that you can have a replacement engraved. Once done you can arrange to deliver it to us here and we will install it for you.

How do I book the Tennis Court?

The tennis court is managed by Lambeth Council and GLL and SCCoop are unable to assist with this. You can book the court through GLL on their website here
