Events in the Rookery 2018
Here are events planned for the Rookery this summer 2018. We may get more events added so please keep checking the site. Many of the events are brought to you by outside parties and we have given details of where you can purchase tickets where possible.
Christmas Fair & Market 2018
Sunday 9th December 2018
Located within the grounds of our beautiful Rookery, this is the fourth year for the event and is a brilliant day out for adults and kids alike. What better way to spend a Sunday in December with some traditional cheer and grab that last minute gift!
This year will feature over 40 stalls with local arts and crafts, gifts, hampers, home wares, clothing and treats. There will be delicious food stalls, a Christmas cafe, mulled wine stall and our on site Brewers, Inkspot, who will be serving their craft beers, ales and lagers.
The marshmallow toasting area and flame garden will be back, so come along and warm your fingers whilst eating a gooey marshmallow treat!
New for this year will be an area for the monthly Farmers Market - a chance to buy delicious food for your Christmas table, plus a series of festive Workshops - available to pre book - details to follow.
Our beautiful Winter Wonderland Santa's Grotto will be open from 11.30, with a donation of £3 per child. Each child will receive a gift from Father Christmas.
Musical entertainment will come from our favourite DJ Tony, alongside songs by local choirs and a gorgeous Carols by Candlelight led by the Streatham Central Church. Do stay, light a candle, grab a glass of mulled wine and enjoy this perfect end to the day.
The fair is proudly sponsored by Douglas & Gordon and we are very grateful for their continued support.

The Winter’s Tale, Sunday 8th July at 3pm – The Festival Players
Written by Shakespeare in his later years, The Winter’s Tale is an intriguing mix of drama and comedy.
Sparked by an obsessive envy of a perceived relationship between his Queen and his oldest friend, Leontes, King of Sicilia, sets in motion a train of events which affect two kingdoms and two generations; there is jealousy and joy, revenge and romance, loss and discovery, remorse and revelry, and an amazing revelation.
Tremendous entertainment for a Summer evening from this premier professional all-male company.
The Wind in the Willows, 9th – 13th August – Sixteen Feet Productions
Sixteen Feet Productions return with their fabulous version of this much loved story. A promenade performance which takes place at different areas within the Rookery. For ages 5 and up. Duration 1hr. Due to limited space you are advised to leave buggies behind.
Rookery Adventures, Music and Treasure Hunts, Clip Theatre

Come on this amazing, in role, adventure to find the Magic Flower Power teddy bear and defeat the Wicked Weed Queen! Together we'll have fun, find clues and treasure and explore the Rookery on this epic adventure!
Twelfth Night, Friday 31st August – The Handlebards
Back for another year, the Handlebards! The world’s first cycling theatre company, The HandleBards, pedal from venue to venue with all the set, props and costume necessary to perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe.
Join our all-male troupe at the Rookery, near Streatham Common, for a bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ like none other. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.
Romeo and Juliet, Wednesday 5th September – The Handlebards
Returning for a second night, Handlebards bring you the classic Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Now, the show is back by popular demand – and, in usual HandleBards style, you can expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.
Join the HandleBards’ all-female troupe at the Rookery, near Streatham Common, for Romeo and Juliet as you’ve never seen it before! And what’s the play about? Well – Romeo and Juliet fall in love, despite the fact that both their families hate each other. Hilarity ensues… Well, sort of.
SCCoop and the Friends of Streatham Common, working with Turnstyle Records www.turnstylerecords.co.uk/ and deli –lama www.deli-lama.co.uk/ to brought you an amazing roster of musicians to suit every taste. All the acts have a strong local connection and are an eclectic mix of Folk, Jazz, Pop, Soul, World music, Americana and Indy.
The artists are performing for free to raise funds towards the upkeep of the Rookery. On the day you can also expect food and drink stalls from local suppliers including beer from Inkspot Brewery. The event also kicked off the Streatham Festival www.streathamfestival.com so what better way to start enjoying the best Streatham has to offer!
